Beauty Obsessions: Fall Makeup - Drugstore Finds

To me cooler months have always meant rich, deep, fabulous makeup. To say that I love Fall makeup is an understatement.  My love of fall make up and the discovery of Kate Moss’ matte lipstick collection for Rimmel is what inspired this post.

I love all brands of makeup and have drawers and drawers full of makeup and nail polish, but my collection is not for everyone. I think a lot of women tend to shy away from dark coloured lipstick from less expensive brands due to fear of feathering. (Feathering: when lipstick or lip gloss fills into the fine lines around your mouth) I want my ladies to feel confident about their makeup as well as any makeup purchases they make; regardless of the price. All of the makeup minus one lip liner can be picked up at your local drugstore. The prices are from Walmart and are in Canadian dollars.
Face:
FIT me! Shine free foundation stick by Maybelline is amazing, I love the powder core which seems to get rid of any shine that I have in my T-zone. I use this as my concealer stick rather than my foundation. It blends very evenly, I recommended applying and blending with your finger tips. I find that when I apply it with the stick and then blend there is too much excess product. It gives me a great base before I apply my foundation and covers up any red marks that I have as well as under eye circles. I throw this in my purse for any minimal touch ups I may need throughout the day. There are 12 shades in this line to match your skin tone as well as liquid foundation and pressed powder if you want the whole line. $6.96
My go to foundation is usually NARS Sheer Glow Foundation but I found that I went through my last bottle way too quickly and did not want to spend $60 on foundation. I set out to find a cheaper option that would give me the coverage I want and could be applied with my favourite method.  I found L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder ! It is a little bit more than I thought it would be at $16.99 but it really is worth it. Magic Nude gives me the right amount of coverage with a very lightweight feel, so I do not feel like my makeup is caked on. The end result is very soft and powder like; which I really enjoy. Although this is SPF 18 please still wear sunscreen, I know that it is Fall but the UV rays are still there! I like to apply my foundation with my hands, and touch up with a brush or sponge. The recommended use for this foundation is to shake well, pour a few drops onto your fingertips and apply directly to skin. I find that way to be very tedious and only use it for targeting specific spots. To apply I shake well first (important!!), pour a few drops into my palm, rub well, and apply to my face. I blend it as if I would moisturizer and follow up on any target areas by tilting the bottle so a drop comes out onto your ring finger, apply to target area and blend with your fingers following up with a blending sponge (click here for a low cost example) if you feel necessary . I find this gives the most even and natural looking results. There are also 12 shades in this line.

Eyes:
I LOVE ScandalEyes by Rimmel in Extreme Black ! The brush is very lush but does not give any issues fitting into the corners. After 2-3 coats of this mascara you will have full, long lashes. For a more va-va-voom lashes add a few extra coats.

Nails:
Unfortunately you cannot tell the richness of the colours in this picture but these colours look great on your nails for Fall, they remind me of leaves.  All the colours are Essie and currently on sale at Walmart for $7.96/each. The colours from left to right with the description from the Essie website are:  Chinchilly - a sleek granite gray (this is one of my favourites), She’s Pampered - an indulgent red, Fishnet Stockings -a spicy dark crème red(another absolute fav), Merino Cool- a sensuous autumn mulberry, Wrapped in Rubies – a rich & deep burgundy with gold undertones & Over the Edge – a dramatic metallic midnight silver. The Sally Hansen Real Nail Polish Strips in Check It Out provides you with a classic Fall houndstooth print. I found this box for $6.99 a few months ago but right now they are on the shelf for $8.50.
 Lips:
The whole reason I decided to write this post! I am obsessed with Kate Moss’ matte collection for Rimmel. The colour is opaque and matte but also surprisingly moisturizing. (Also it smells amazing but does not give that yucky petroleum taste!) I will start with the shade, 107; which is a deep berry. This lipstick needed a bit of touch up throughout the day but one coat gave me most of the coverage that I needed with little need to apply a second coat. To ensure I had no feathering I applied Exaggerate Automatic Lip Liner. The first time I wore the lipstick I got a ton of compliments & I also felt the way a good lipstick should make you feel - SEXY!  Shade 103 is another favourite for me – it is also matte but it is a medium pink with blue undertones. It works well to soften any “too tough” outfits and pairs well with black liquid liner and lots of mascara. The matte velvety texture makes it also perfect for Fall. Both the lipstick and lip liner were $5.98. I paired 103 with 05 Native Nude Nano Lip Liner by Sephora – not a drugstore but at $9.00 it certainly does not break the bank! I love this shade because it matches my lips perfectly; making it extremely versatile.

Luxe Item: (Elizabeth et Estelle note: Luxe is short for luxurious – all my Luxe Items are items that are on the higher end dollar wise but are also superb in quality. I highly recommend all Luxe Items)
My go to Fall/Winter perfume is Christian Dior Addict. It is a very sexy and full scent; one spritz really is enough for the whole day. I put this in my Luxe Items section because although I did pick mine up at Shopper’s Drug Mart it was $115.00. The description on the Sephora website is right on the money – it does evoke a sense of passion and is for the independent, vivacious & alluring woman. I recommend this for evening/night wear and not for the day as it is very strong and may be overwhelming for work or daytime use.

I hope all my beautiful ladies enjoy playing with their Fall looks while always remembering how beautiful you are with a fresh face void of all makeup.

Lots of Love,
E et E
**Elizabeth et Estelle note: Although there is a lot of Rimmel in this post I do NOT recommend any of their lipstick other than Kate Moss’ line or their eye shadow, it gives very little colour and often cakes into the creases.**
