Beauty Obsessions: Gel Nail Polish

Ermahgerd! I am absolutely obsessed with gel nail polish.  My nail technician suggested it 4 manicures ago and I am never going back to regular nail polish (well I somewhat am; & I will describe how in a minute!) Gel nail polish is amazing because it strengthens your nails and acts a protective covering from breakage and snags.

My nails refuse to grow, they seem to break as soon as they hit the end of my finger tips and they are brittle with deep ridges. I have small hands with short fingers and wide nail beds so my short nails never looked trendy a la Lauren Conrad, just plain unkept! I turned to acrylic nails and put on a new set every 3 months because after a few months they look pretty gross.

Acrylic Nails

After using the gel nail polish on my acrylic nails I was sold. The gel rarely chips, and you can use regular nail polish on top of the gel polish and use regular nail polish remover to take it off without any of the gel polish being affected at all! Last manicure I decided to take off my acrylic nails (since my nails underneath had grown) and use gel nail polish on top to see if it would give me the same effect as acrylic nails without the hassle and possible side effects of acrylic nails. I have had gel polish on my natural nails for 2 weeks now and as I said I am never going back to regular nail polish or acrylic. My nails look amazing and they feel strong!




Ciate Mini Mani Month Advent

Being the spoiled brat that I am I was gifted the Ciate Mini Mani Month Advent Calendar. Since I am now only using gel nail polish I was racking my brain to figure out how to still use this incredibly thoughtful gift & bang-o I remembered being told that I can use regular nail polish on top of the gel polish as long as it is a darker colour. Yesterday I went to my nail salon and asked for clear gel nail polish thinking that was the best solution to my first world problem, Yen (the most helpful & amazing manicurist) suggested that I use Glints of Glinda. As you can see from the pictures below my nails look clean, fresh & natural. It is the perfect nude colour to even out the lines on my nails that were left over from the sanding down process in getting acrylic nails and I can now enjoy my mini mani advent calendar to my heart’s content.
